Rainy Day Adventures in Cornwall: Embrace the Wet Weather!

Cornwall is renowned for its stunning beaches and outdoor adventures, but what happens when the rain clouds roll in? Fear not! Cornwall offers a plethora of indoor activities that are perfect for a rainy day. Whether you’re a history buff, an art enthusiast, or simply looking for some family fun, there’s something for everyone.

Here’s a friendly guide to some of the best rainy day activities in Cornwall.

1. The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic

Nestled in the picturesque village of Boscastle, this unique museum houses one of the world’s largest collections of items related to witchcraft, the occult, and magic. With over 3,000 objects, it’s a fascinating and slightly spooky way to spend a few hours on a rainy day.

It should be noted that the museum is in an old building with steep stairs, and as such in not accessible for wheelchair users and for those with mobility issues. On a personal level, I wouldn’t recommend for young children as some of the content is a little on the gruesome side!

2. Eden Project

Located just outside St Austell, the Eden Project is a must-visit. This incredible eco-attraction features two massive biomes housing plants from around the world. The Rainforest Biome is the largest indoor rainforest in the world, while the Mediterranean Biome offers a taste of warmer climates. It’s a fantastic place to explore, learn about sustainability, and enjoy interactive exhibits.

Top tip, take a water bottle – it gets hot in that Tropical Biome!

3. Geevor Tin Mine

Discover Cornwall’s mining heritage at Geevor Tin Mine. This preserved mining site offers a museum, underground tours, and a visitor center perched on the rugged cliffs of Penwith. It’s an educational and adventurous outing with stunning coastal views suitable for all ages.

4. Truro Cathedral

For a moment of peace and reflection, visit Truro Cathedral. This architectural gem in the heart of Cornwall’s capital city (Truro) boasts beautiful stained glass windows and intricate carvings. It’s a serene escape from the rain and often they have exhibitions on, and evening events.

5. Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm

Deep in the Cornish countryside, Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm offers tours of their orchards and cider-making facilities.

Sample their delicious jams, chutneys, ciders and gins, and learn about the cider-making process. It’s a delightful experience for adults, and a favourite of mine. The restaurant on site is fantastic too – good hearty food (and drink), but if you like there are plenty of places for an alfresco picnic.

Children will love to see the goats, and other animals in the courtyard area and explore the outbuilding where the museum is based.

My top tip with this place is to book a taxi or have a dedicated alcohol free driver!

6. Davidstow Airfield & Cornwall At War Museum

This museum offers a deep dive into Cornwall’s military history, with exhibits on World War II and the airfield’s role during the war. It’s a fascinating visit for history enthusiasts.

Rainy days in Cornwall don’t have to be dull. With these fantastic indoor activities, you can explore, learn, and have fun, no matter the weather. So grab your umbrella and embrace the adventure!

I hope this helps you enjoy your rainy days in Cornwall! If you have any other questions or need more recommendations, feel free to ask.
